As writer Tony Schwartz wrote in the New York Times, October 11, 2024, about Trump’s persona in the film, “The Apprentice,” “The first lesson is that a lack of conscience can be a huge advantage when it comes to accruing power, attention and wealth in a society where most other human beings abide by a social contract.” It seems that the sycophants who craft and pass the big, beautiful bill have no consciences.

The capitalist economic system is not inherently democratic in operation. The interaction of capital and labor in the productive process is not a level playing field. Owning the means of production establishes control over the fruits of production. Without the intervention of government regulation labor unions and social programs, labor would be dominated by capital interests.

But each of these crutches have been weakened by Republican administrations with increasing tenacity.

The US Supreme Court decision in Citizens United recognized the expenditure of capital as an exercise of free speech. In this decision the Court expanded the reach of economic capitalism to the political process and society in general.

As capitalism has been an expanding influence in society, democracy has sustained an equivalent loss. The resulting dramatic wealth imbalance has placed the ultra-wealthy in an unprecedented position of power.

The Trump administration and more particularly those behind Project 2025, are working to finalize the consolidation of power among the ultra-wealthy. If the 1% hold more wealth than 80% of the remaining, can we still have a functioning democracy?

You make an excellent observation, "This budget isn’t a compromise. It’s a manifesto." I will suggest it's the Project 2025 Manifesto.
